Branch offices and remote sites demand a router that can handle data, voice, and security services simultaneously — without requiring a rack full of separate appliances. The Cisco 2811 Integrated Services Router (CISCO2811) consolidates routing, switching, security, and voice capabilities into a single modular 1U platform, reducing complexity and total cost of ownership.
Part of the Cisco 2800 Series, the CISCO2811 delivers wire-speed performance for concurrent services across multiple T1/E1/xDSL WAN connections. Its modular architecture features 4 High-Speed WAN Interface Card (HWIC) slots, 1 Network Module Enhanced (NME) slot, 2 Packet Voice DSP Module (PVDM) slots, and 2 Advanced Integration Module (AIM) slots — giving you the flexibility to tailor the router to your exact requirements today and scale as needs evolve. Two onboard 10/100 Fast Ethernet ports provide reliable LAN connectivity out of the box.
With embedded hardware encryption acceleration, Cisco IOS firewall, intrusion prevention, and VPN support (DES, 3DES, AES), the CISCO2811 delivers enterprise-grade security at the network edge. This router supports the majority of existing Cisco AIMs, NMs, WICs, VWICs, and VICs — over 90 modules — protecting your investment in existing interface cards. Shipped with 256 MB DRAM, 64 MB Compact Flash, an AC power supply, and a 19-inch rackmount kit, the CISCO2811 is ready for immediate deployment.
Note: The Cisco 2800 Series is an End-of-Life product. It remains a cost-effective option for labs, spares, and legacy network environments where third-party maintenance is available.
Features & Benefits
Modular Expansion Architecture
The CISCO2811 provides 4 HWIC slots, 1 NME slot, 2 PVDM slots, and 2 AIM slots, enabling you to customize the router for virtually any WAN, voice, or services requirement. With support for over 90 existing and new Cisco modules — including WICs, VWICs, VICs, and NMs — you can repurpose cards from previous-generation routers, protecting your hardware investment.
Integrated Security Services
Embedded hardware encryption acceleration supports DES, 3DES, and AES for high-performance VPN tunnels without degrading routing throughput. Cisco IOS firewall and intrusion prevention system (IPS) capabilities are built in, allowing you to enforce security policies at the branch without deploying a separate security appliance.
Voice-Ready Platform
Two onboard PVDM slots accept Cisco Packet Voice DSP modules, enabling integrated call processing, voice mail, and unified communications at the branch. This eliminates the need for a standalone PBX and reduces both capital and operational costs for voice deployments.
Compact, Rack-Ready Form Factor
At just 1U in height and 6.4 kg, the CISCO2811 fits neatly into standard 19-inch racks. The included ACS-2811-RM-19 rackmount kit ensures fast, secure installation. Wall-mount capability is also supported for space-constrained environments.
Wire-Speed Multi-Service Performance
The Cisco 2800 Series was designed to deliver concurrent data, voice, and security services at wire speed across multiple T1/E1/xDSL connections. This means you can enable VPN encryption, QoS, and firewall inspection simultaneously without creating a performance bottleneck at the branch.
Deployment Scenarios
Branch Office WAN Router
Deploy the CISCO2811 as the primary WAN edge router at branch offices connecting back to headquarters via T1/E1, xDSL, or serial WAN links. Its modular HWIC slots let you match the WAN interface to your provider's handoff, while integrated security services protect branch traffic without additional appliances.
Unified Communications Branch Gateway
Leverage the 2 PVDM slots and NME slot to deploy integrated voice services — including Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express (CME) and voice mail — directly on the router. This consolidates voice and data infrastructure into a single device, reducing hardware footprint and simplifying management at remote sites.
Lab and Training Environment
The CISCO2811 is an excellent platform for CCNA, CCNP, and CCIE lab environments. Its full Cisco IOS feature set and modular slot architecture provide hands-on experience with routing protocols, WAN technologies, VPNs, and QoS in a cost-effective, compact form factor.
Legacy Network Maintenance and Spares
Organizations still running Cisco ISR G1 infrastructure can use the CISCO2811 as a hot spare or replacement unit to maintain uptime while planning migration to newer platforms. Third-party maintenance contracts are widely available to extend support beyond Cisco's End-of-Support date.
