Cisco SFP-10G-SR
10GBASE-SR SFP Module, Original Cisco
Product Highlights
Scaling your data center or campus network to 10 Gigabit Ethernet shouldn't mean ripping out existing multimode fiber infrastructure. The Cisco SFP-10G-SR is an original Cisco 10GBASE-SR SFP+ transceiver module that delivers reliable 10 Gbps connectivity over short-reach multimode fiber — the most widely deployed cabling in enterprise environments.
Operating at 850nm with a VCSEL laser transmitter, the SFP-10G-SR supports link lengths of up to 300 meters on OM3 fiber and up to 400 meters on OM4 fiber, making it ideal for top-of-rack switch uplinks, server-to-switch connections, and intra-building backbone links. It also supports 26m reaches on legacy FDDI-grade multimode fiber, protecting your existing cabling investment.
The module features Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) per SFF-8472, giving network engineers real-time diagnostic data — including optical power levels, laser bias current, supply voltage, and case temperature — directly from the switch CLI or SNMP management platform. As an original Cisco transceiver with built-in Cisco quality identification, the SFP-10G-SR is natively recognized across a broad range of Cisco platforms without requiring any unsupported-transceiver workarounds. Its hot-swappable SFP+ form factor and sub-1W power consumption make it a low-risk, high-density choice for any 10GbE deployment.
Features & Benefits
10 Gigabit Ethernet Performance
The SFP-10G-SR delivers a full 10 Gbps data rate over multimode fiber, meeting the IEEE 802.3ae 10GBASE-SR standard. Whether you're aggregating access-layer traffic or connecting servers in a leaf-spine fabric, this module provides the bandwidth modern workloads demand — without the cost of single-mode optics.
Optimized for Multimode Fiber
Designed for 850nm short-reach applications, the SFP-10G-SR supports up to 300m on OM3 and 400m on OM4 multimode fiber. It also operates over legacy FDDI-grade MMF at distances up to 26m. This flexibility lets you leverage existing multimode plant while delivering 10GbE speeds across your campus or data center.
Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM)
Built-in DOM support per SFF-8472 enables real-time monitoring of five critical parameters: TX output power, RX input power, laser bias current, supply voltage, and module temperature. Proactive visibility into transceiver health helps you identify degrading links before they cause outages — reducing mean time to repair and improving overall network reliability.
Hot-Swappable & Low Power
The SFP+ form factor is fully hot-swappable, allowing you to install or replace modules without powering down the host device. With typical power consumption under 1W, the SFP-10G-SR minimizes thermal load in high-density switch chassis — an important consideration when populating dozens of ports per line card.
Native Cisco Platform Recognition
As an original Cisco transceiver, the SFP-10G-SR carries Cisco quality identification (ID) in its EEPROM. Cisco switches and routers natively recognize the module, eliminating the need for service unsupported-transceiver commands and ensuring full TAC support eligibility.
Deployment Scenarios
Data Center Top-of-Rack Uplinks
Connect servers to top-of-rack switches over short-reach OM3/OM4 multimode fiber. The SFP-10G-SR's 10 Gbps throughput and sub-1W power draw make it ideal for high-density leaf-spine fabrics where hundreds of optics are deployed per rack row.
Enterprise Campus Distribution & Core
Link access-layer switches to distribution or core switches within a building using existing multimode fiber runs. With up to 300m reach on OM3, the SFP-10G-SR covers the vast majority of intra-building distances without requiring single-mode infrastructure.
SAN and Storage Connectivity
Deploy in Cisco MDS or Nexus platforms to provide 10GbE connectivity for storage traffic, iSCSI, or converged Ethernet workloads. DOM diagnostics help storage administrators proactively monitor link health on latency-sensitive storage networks.
Service Provider Aggregation
Use in Cisco ASR routers or aggregation switches to terminate short-reach 10GbE subscriber or backhaul links. The module's interoperability with 10GBASE XENPAK, X2, and XFP interfaces on the far end simplifies mixed-generation network migrations.
