Cisco SFP-10G-LRM
10GBASE-LRM SFP Module, Original Cisco
Product Highlights
Upgrading to 10 Gigabit Ethernet shouldn't mean ripping out your existing fiber plant. The Cisco SFP-10G-LRM is a 10GBASE-LRM SFP+ transceiver module engineered to deliver 10GbE over legacy multimode fiber — including FDDI-grade, OM1, and OM2 cabling — at distances up to 220 meters, while also supporting up to 300 meters on standard single-mode fiber (G.652).
Operating at a 1310nm wavelength with a dual LC/PC connector, the SFP-10G-LRM plugs into any compatible Cisco SFP+ port and is fully hot-swappable, so you can deploy or swap modules without taking down the network. Built-in Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) gives network engineers real-time insight into optical power levels, temperature, and supply voltage — simplifying troubleshooting and proactive maintenance.
As an original Cisco transceiver, the SFP-10G-LRM carries the Cisco quality identification (ID) feature, ensuring it is recognized, certified, and fully supported on Cisco platforms. It is ideal for data center interconnects, enterprise campus access and distribution layers, and service provider transport applications where leveraging existing multimode fiber saves significant recabling costs. With power consumption of just 1W, it supports high-density deployments without excessive thermal overhead.
Features & Benefits
Legacy Fiber Investment Protection
The SFP-10G-LRM is purpose-built for 10G migration over existing multimode fiber. It supports FDDI-grade, OM1, OM2, OM3, and OM4 fiber types up to 220m, and standard single-mode fiber (G.652) up to 300m. For FDDI-grade, OM1, and OM2 fibers, a mode conditioning patch cord is recommended to ensure optimal performance — no patch cord is needed for OM3 or OM4.
Hot-Swappable SFP+ Design
The compact SFP+ form factor enables the industry's highest 10G port density per chassis. Modules are fully hot-swappable, allowing installation and replacement without powering down the host switch or router — minimizing maintenance windows and maximizing uptime.
Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM)
Integrated DDM (also known as DOM) provides real-time monitoring of critical transceiver parameters including optical Tx/Rx power, temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage. This enables proactive fault detection and faster troubleshooting, reducing mean time to repair.
Cisco Quality Identification
As an original Cisco module, the SFP-10G-LRM includes the Cisco quality ID feature. This allows Cisco switches and routers to verify the transceiver is genuine, certified, and tested by Cisco — ensuring full TAC support eligibility and peace of mind for mission-critical deployments.
Broad Optical Interoperability
The SFP-10G-LRM is optically interoperable with 10GBASE XENPAK, X2, and XFP interfaces on the same fiber link. This flexibility simplifies mixed-generation network environments where different 10G form factors coexist.
Deployment Scenarios
Enterprise Campus Backbone over Legacy Fiber
Many campus networks still rely on OM1 or OM2 multimode fiber installed years ago. The SFP-10G-LRM enables a 10GbE upgrade across building risers and inter-building links up to 220m without costly recabling — protecting your existing fiber investment while delivering modern bandwidth.
Data Center Interconnects
Within data centers, the SFP-10G-LRM provides reliable 10G server-to-switch and switch-to-switch connectivity over multimode fiber. Its low 1W power consumption and compact SFP+ form factor support high-density top-of-rack and end-of-row deployments.
Service Provider Transport & Aggregation
Service providers can use the SFP-10G-LRM for short-to-medium reach 10G transport links. With support for both MMF (220m) and SMF (300m), it offers deployment flexibility in central offices and colocation facilities where mixed fiber types are common.

Compatibility Notes
The Cisco SFP-10G-LRM is supported across a wide range of Cisco platforms including Catalyst, Nexus, and ASR series devices. Not all platforms support every SFP+ module — always verify compatibility using the Cisco 10 Gigabit Ethernet Transceiver Modules Compatibility Matrix before ordering.
Mode Conditioning Patch Cord: Required when using FDDI-grade, OM1, or OM2 multimode fiber to ensure specifications are met. Not required for OM3 or OM4 fiber.
Connector Note: Only PC or UPC polished patch cords are supported. APC connectors are not supported.
