Cisco SFP-10/25G-BXU-I
10/25GBASE-LR BiDirectional - U SFP28 iTemp Module, Original Cisco
Product Highlights
Fiber infrastructure costs add up fast — especially when every link demands a dedicated pair of strands. The Cisco SFP-10/25G-BXU-I solves that challenge by enabling bidirectional 10G and 25G Ethernet over a single strand of standard single-mode fiber, effectively doubling your fiber capacity without pulling new cable.
This original Cisco SFP28 transceiver transmits at 1270nm and receives at 1330nm, pairing with the complementary SFP-10/25G-BXD-I module on the far end to establish a full-duplex link over one fiber. It supports link lengths of up to 10 kilometers on G.652 SMF at both 10G and 25G data rates, making it ideal for campus backbone, inter-building, metro access, and 5G fronthaul applications.
Rated for industrial operating temperatures, the SFP-10/25G-BXU-I is built for deployments where environmental conditions are unpredictable — outdoor cabinets, cell-tower enclosures, and remote aggregation nodes. Built-in Digital Diagnostics Monitoring (DDM) provides real-time telemetry on optical power levels, temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage, giving network operations teams the visibility they need to proactively manage link health. For 25G operation at full 10km reach, RS-FEC must be enabled on the host port.
Features & Benefits
BiDirectional Single-Fiber Technology
An integrated WDM splitter separates the 1270nm transmit and 1330nm receive wavelengths, enabling full-duplex communication over a single fiber strand. This cuts fiber consumption in half — a significant cost saving in conduit-constrained environments or leased dark-fiber scenarios.
Dual-Rate 10G/25G Flexibility
The SFP-10/25G-BXU-I operates at both 10 Gbps and 25 Gbps, providing a smooth migration path from 10G to 25G infrastructure without replacing optics. This investment protection simplifies lifecycle planning and reduces spare-parts inventory.
Industrial Temperature Rating
Designed for extended operating temperatures, this module is suitable for outdoor enclosures, roadside cabinets, and other uncontrolled environments. It delivers consistent optical performance where commercial-grade modules would fail.
Digital Diagnostics Monitoring (DDM/DOM)
Real-time monitoring of optical output power, received optical power, temperature, laser bias current, and supply voltage enables proactive fault detection. Network teams can identify degrading links before they impact service availability.
RS-FEC for 25G Reliability
Reed-Solomon Forward Error Correction (RS-FEC) is required on the host port for full 10km reach at 25G. RS-FEC dramatically reduces bit error rates, ensuring enterprise-grade link reliability even at higher data rates over extended distances.
Deployment Scenarios
Campus & Inter-Building Backbone
Connect buildings across a campus with 10G or 25G Ethernet over a single fiber strand per link. The 10km reach and single-fiber operation maximize the value of existing fiber plant and reduce the need for costly new fiber runs.
5G Fronthaul & Mobile Network Edge
Deploy in cell-site enclosures and remote radio head aggregation points where industrial temperature tolerance is essential. BiDi operation conserves fiber in dense fronthaul architectures where strand counts are at a premium.
Service Provider Metro Access
Use in metro access rings and last-mile aggregation where fiber pairs are leased at a per-strand cost. Cutting fiber usage in half directly reduces recurring opex while delivering 25G capacity for subscriber growth.
Industrial & Outdoor Edge Deployments
Ideal for traffic cabinets, utility substations, and other harsh-environment locations where temperature extremes demand industrial-rated optics. DDM provides remote visibility into module health without a truck roll.

Compatibility Notes
Pairing Requirement: The SFP-10/25G-BXU-I (TX 1270nm / RX 1330nm) must always be paired with a SFP-10/25G-BXD-I (TX 1330nm / RX 1270nm) on the opposite end of the link.
RS-FEC: RS-FEC must be enabled on the host port for full 10km reach at 25G operation.
Fiber Type: Standard single-mode fiber (SMF) per ITU-T G.652.
Platform Compatibility: Supported on Cisco platforms with SFP28 ports that support BiDi optics. Refer to the Cisco Transceiver Module Group (TMG) Compatibility Matrix for specific platform and IOS/IOS-XR/NX-OS version support.
