Data center environments demand switches that deliver line-rate performance, ultra-low latency, and rock-solid reliability — without consuming excessive rack space or power. The Cisco N3K-C3064PQ-10GX (Nexus 3064-X) is a high-performance, high-density 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch purpose-built for exactly these requirements.
Packed into a compact 1RU form factor, the Nexus 3064-X provides 48 SFP+ ports supporting 1/10 Gigabit Ethernet and 4 QSFP+ ports capable of native 40GbE or 4×10GbE breakout — delivering up to 64 unified 10GbE ports. With a 1.28 Tbps switching capacity and a forwarding rate exceeding 950 million packets per second, this switch delivers true line-rate Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching across every port simultaneously.
As a true PHY-less switch, the Nexus 3064-X is optimized for ultra-low latency and low power consumption, making it an excellent fit for top-of-rack data center deployments, high-frequency trading floors, and financial co-location facilities. Running the industry-proven Cisco NX-OS operating system, it supports advanced features including Virtual Port Channel (vPC), PowerOn Auto Provisioning (POAP), and Embedded Event Manager (EEM). This unit ships with port-side exhaust airflow, dual N2200-PAC-400W AC power supplies, a fan tray, rackmount kit, and AC power cords — ready for immediate deployment.
Note: This product has reached Cisco End-of-Sale status. It remains a proven, cost-effective option available through the secondary market.
Features & Benefits
High-Density 10GbE & 40GbE Connectivity
The Nexus 3064-X delivers 48 SFP+ ports and 4 QSFP+ ports in a single 1RU chassis. Each SFP+ port supports 1GbE and 10GbE, while each QSFP+ port operates in native 40GbE or 4×10GbE breakout mode — giving you up to 64 unified 10GbE ports. This density reduces the number of switches needed per rack, lowering both capital and operational costs.
Ultra-Low Latency, PHY-less Architecture
Designed as a true PHY-less switch, the Nexus 3064-X minimizes forwarding latency by eliminating the physical-layer transceiver chip from the data path. This makes it exceptionally well suited for latency-sensitive applications such as high-frequency trading (HFT), financial co-location, and real-time analytics workloads where every microsecond counts.
Line-Rate Layer 2 & Layer 3 Switching
With 1.28 Tbps of switching capacity and over 950 Mpps forwarding performance, the Nexus 3064-X delivers non-blocking, line-rate throughput across all ports simultaneously. A 128K MAC address table and support for up to 4096 VLANs ensure it scales to meet the demands of large, complex data center fabrics.
Cisco NX-OS with Advanced Data Center Features
Running Cisco NX-OS, the switch supports Virtual Port Channel (vPC) for loop-free redundancy, PowerOn Auto Provisioning (POAP) for zero-touch deployment, Embedded Event Manager (EEM) for automated remediation, and Precision Time Protocol (PTP) for time-sensitive applications. These features reduce operational complexity and accelerate deployment timelines.
Redundant Power & Cooling
This unit ships with dual N2200-PAC-400W AC power supplies and a hot-swappable fan tray (N3K-C3064-FAN) with redundant fans configured for port-side exhaust airflow. The redundant design ensures continuous operation even during a single PSU or fan failure, meeting the uptime requirements of mission-critical data center environments.
Deployment Scenarios
Data Center Top-of-Rack (ToR) Deployment
The Nexus 3064-X excels as a top-of-rack switch, connecting up to 48 servers via SFP+ at 10GbE while providing 40GbE QSFP+ uplinks to aggregation or spine switches. Its 1RU form factor and low power consumption maximize rack density and reduce per-port energy costs.
High-Frequency Trading & Financial Co-Location
The PHY-less, ultra-low-latency architecture makes the Nexus 3064-X a proven choice for financial trading environments where deterministic, sub-microsecond switching performance is critical. Comprehensive unicast and multicast routing support ensures compatibility with market data feed architectures.
Network Monitoring & Tap Aggregation
With Cisco Nexus Data Broker support, the Nexus 3064-X can serve as a cost-effective tap aggregation or SPAN collection switch. Its high port density and line-rate forwarding allow network operations teams to aggregate and distribute monitoring traffic without introducing packet loss.
Lab, Staging & Secondary Data Center Infrastructure
As an End-of-Sale product available at significant savings on the secondary market, the Nexus 3064-X is an excellent choice for lab environments, staging networks, and non-production data center tiers where enterprise-grade performance is needed without the cost of current-generation hardware.

Compatibility Notes
Airflow Configuration: This unit ships with port-side exhaust (forward) airflow — air enters through the fan tray and power supplies and exits through the ports. Ensure your rack's hot-aisle/cold-aisle orientation matches this airflow direction.
Power Supplies: Includes two (2) N2200-PAC-400W AC power supplies. DC power supply options (N2200-PDC-400W) were available separately.
Fan Tray: Includes one (1) N3K-C3064-FAN (forward airflow). The fan tray is hot-swappable but must be replaced within 1 minute to avoid thermal shutdown.
SFP+ Transceivers: SFP+ transceivers are not included and must be ordered separately. The switch supports Cisco SFP+, SFP, and direct-attach Twinax copper cables.
QSFP+ Transceivers: QSFP+ transceivers are not included. Supports QSFP+ optical modules, Twinax copper cables, and QSFP-to-4×SFP+ breakout cables.
Operating System: Runs Cisco NX-OS. Software licenses (e.g., LAN Enterprise) are separate from the hardware and may need to be procured independently.
EOL Status: Cisco announced End-of-Sale on April 28, 2017. Cisco recommends the Nexus 3172PQ-XL or 31108PC-V as migration replacements.
