As enterprise wireless demands surge with BYOD, IoT, and bandwidth-intensive applications, your access layer needs to keep pace. The Cisco AIR-AP3802I-B-K9 — part of the Cisco Aironet 3800 Series — delivers 802.11ac Wave 2 performance with 4x4:3 MU-MIMO technology, providing a theoretical aggregate data rate of up to 5.2 Gbps to keep your high-density environments running smoothly.
Designed for challenging indoor deployments, the 3802i features integrated omnidirectional antennas and Cisco CleanAir technology for proactive spectrum intelligence. Its Flexible Radio Assignment automatically determines the optimal radio configuration — traditional 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz dual-band or dual 5 GHz mode — based on real-time environmental conditions. A dedicated Multigigabit Ethernet (mGig) uplink supports speeds of 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, and 5 Gbps over existing Category 5e cabling, eliminating costly re-cabling projects.
The modular architecture includes a side module connector for field-upgradable expansion, and the AP integrates seamlessly with Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers and Cisco DNA for centralized management, analytics, and security. Whether you're upgrading legacy 802.11n infrastructure or building out a new campus wireless network, the AIR-AP3802I-B-K9 delivers enterprise-grade reliability with the B regulatory domain configuration.
Features & Benefits
802.11ac Wave 2 & MU-MIMO
The AIR-AP3802I-B-K9 supports 802.11ac Wave 2 with 4x4:3 MU-MIMO, enabling the access point to split spatial streams between multiple client devices simultaneously. This dramatically improves throughput in high-density environments where dozens or hundreds of users compete for airtime.
Flexible Radio Assignment
Cisco's Flexible Radio Assignment technology allows the AP's dual radios to automatically self-optimize. The access point can operate in traditional 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz mode, switch to dual 5 GHz for maximum bandwidth, or dedicate one radio to Wireless Security Monitoring for continuous threat detection — all without manual intervention.
Multigigabit Ethernet Uplink
The 3800 Series provides Multigigabit Ethernet uplink speeds of 2.5 Gbps and 5 Gbps in addition to 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps — all over existing Cat 5e infrastructure. This eliminates the need for costly cable plant upgrades while ensuring the wired backhaul can keep up with Wave 2 wireless throughput.
Cisco CleanAir Technology
Built-in CleanAir spectrum intelligence proactively identifies and mitigates sources of RF interference such as microwaves, Bluetooth devices, and rogue access points. This ensures consistent, reliable wireless performance even in congested RF environments.
Modular & Expandable Design
A side module connector allows you to install and remove compatible expansion modules — such as additional radios — without dismounting the access point from the ceiling. This future-proofs your investment and simplifies maintenance.
Cisco DNA & Controller Integration
Pairing the 3802i with Cisco Digital Network Architecture (DNA) and Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers enables centralized management, real-time analytics, automated security threat containment, and policy-based automation across your entire wired and wireless infrastructure.
Deployment Scenarios
High-Density Enterprise Campus
Deploy the AIR-AP3802I-B-K9 across open-plan offices, conference centers, and auditoriums where hundreds of concurrent clients demand reliable, high-throughput connectivity. MU-MIMO and Flexible Radio Assignment ensure optimal performance under heavy load.
Education & Higher-Ed Lecture Halls
Support classrooms and lecture halls where students bring multiple Wi-Fi devices. The 3802i's high-density capabilities and CleanAir technology maintain consistent connectivity even with dense device populations and competing RF sources.
Healthcare Facilities
Provide mission-critical wireless connectivity for medical devices, staff tablets, and patient Wi-Fi in hospitals and clinics. The internal antenna design offers a clean, hygienic installation profile, while CleanAir mitigates interference from medical equipment.
Retail & Hospitality Venues
Enable customer-facing Wi-Fi, point-of-sale systems, and inventory management applications in retail stores, hotels, and convention centers. The mGig uplink ensures the wired backhaul matches the wireless throughput demands of busy public spaces.

Power Requirements
- 802.3at (PoE+): Required for full feature operation. Power draw is approximately 30W at the PSE (25.5W at the PD) with all features enabled except USB.
- 802.3at with USB enabled: Approximately 34W at the PSE (31.1W at the PD).
- 802.3af: The AP will join the controller but radios may not operate at full capacity. Upgrade to 802.3at or use a compatible power injector (e.g., AIR-PWRINJ6) for full functionality.
Regulatory Domain
This is the B regulatory domain variant. Verify that the B domain is approved for use in your country at cisco.com/go/aironet/compliance.
Power Adapter
Power adapter is not included. The AP is designed to be powered via PoE+ from a compatible switch or midspan injector.
