Maintaining legacy voice infrastructure shouldn't mean overspending on replacement hardware. The Cisco AS5350-AC is the AC-powered chassis for the Cisco AS5350 Universal Gateway — a proven 1RU platform that delivers data, voice, and fax gateway services in a compact, modular design.
Part of the Cisco AS5300 Series Universal Gateways, the AS5350 was purpose-built for ISPs and enterprises requiring versatile voice and data gateway functionality. It supports a wide range of PSTN signaling protocols, gateway signaling (H.323, SIP, MGCP), voice codecs, fax, VoiceXML, and IVR capabilities. The chassis ships with default memory — 128MB DRAM, 64MB Shared I/O DRAM, 32MB Flash, and 8MB Bootflash — along with an AC power supply (AS535-AC-PWR), AC power cord, and a 19-inch rackmount kit (AS5350RM-19).
While the AS5350 has reached End-of-Life status, it remains a cost-effective option for organizations that need to maintain or expand existing AS5350 deployments. This chassis provides the foundation onto which trunk feature cards and DSP modules can be installed to build out voice, dial, and fax services tailored to your specific requirements.
Features & Benefits
Compact 1RU Universal Gateway Chassis
The Cisco AS5350 occupies just one rack unit (1.75 x 17.5 x 20.5 inches), making it one of the most space-efficient universal voice gateways available. This compact footprint is ideal for co-location environments, branch offices, and dense POP deployments where rack space is at a premium.
AC Power System with Environmental Monitoring
The included AS535-AC-PWR power supply accepts 100–240 VAC input at 50–60 Hz, delivering up to 150W of DC output across four independent voltage rails (3.3V, 5V, 12V, -12V). AC input units feature power factor correction and low Total Harmonic Distortion. Power failures are reported through environmental monitoring software for proactive management.
Default Memory for Immediate Deployment
The AS5350-AC ships with a baseline memory configuration: 128MB DRAM (MEM-128M-AS535), 64MB Shared I/O DRAM (MEM-64S-AS535), 32MB Flash (MEM-32F-AS535), and 8MB Bootflash (MEM-8BF-AS535). This default configuration provides a ready-to-configure foundation — simply add the appropriate trunk cards, DSP modules, and Cisco IOS feature set for your deployment.
Modular, Scalable Architecture
The AS5350 chassis supports a range of trunk termination and universal port feature cards, enabling configurations from 2-port T1/E1 up to 8-port T1 or 7-port E1. This modularity allows you to scale capacity incrementally as demand grows, protecting your initial investment while adapting to changing requirements.
Broad Protocol Support
The AS5350 platform supports an extensive set of LAN protocols (IP, IPX, AppleTalk, DECnet, 802.1Q), WAN protocols (Frame Relay, PPP, HDLC), and voice gateway signaling (H.323, SIP, MGCP, TGCP). This breadth of protocol support makes it suitable for multiprotocol corporate networks and service provider IP networks alike.
Deployment Scenarios
Legacy Voice Gateway Replacement
Organizations with existing Cisco AS5350 deployments that need a replacement chassis can use the AS5350-AC as a drop-in substitute. Reuse your existing trunk cards, DSP modules, and IOS configuration to restore service quickly without a full platform migration.
Small POP / Branch Office VoIP Gateway
The 1RU form factor and support for up to 8-port T1 or 7-port E1 configurations make the AS5350 well-suited for small points of presence or branch offices that need to terminate PSTN trunks and convert voice traffic to IP. Its compact design minimizes space and power requirements in remote locations.
ISP Dial-In and Remote Access Services
Service providers maintaining legacy dial-in access services can leverage the AS5350's universal port architecture to deliver data, voice, and fax services on any port. Support for L2TP, PPP, and RADIUS/TACACS+ authentication enables secure, scalable remote access deployments.
Lab and Testing Environments
Network engineers and training labs benefit from the AS5350-AC as an affordable platform for studying voice gateway technologies, PSTN signaling, and Cisco IOS voice features. Its EOL status makes it available at significantly reduced cost compared to current-generation platforms.

Compatibility Notes
Platform Family: Cisco AS5300 Series Universal Gateways
Compatible Trunk Feature Cards: The AS5350 chassis accepts AS5350-compatible trunk termination cards (e.g., AS5X-FC high-density packet voice/fax feature cards) and universal port DSP feature cards. Consult the Cisco AS5350 ordering guide for specific card compatibility.
Redundant Power Supply: A second AS535-AC-PWR module can be added for power redundancy. Redundant power supply support requires Cisco IOS Release 12.2(2)XB5 or later.
Rackmount: The included AS5350RM-19 kit supports standard 19-inch rack installation.
Note: The Cisco AS5350 is an End-of-Life product. Cisco no longer sells or provides official support for this platform. Third-party maintenance and support options may be available.
