Cisco WS-X6348-RJ45V
Catalyst 6000 48-port 10/100, Enh QoS, Inline Power, RJ-45
Product Highlights
What's Included
Deploying IP telephony or wireless access points across a campus network demands high-density Ethernet switching with reliable inline power — and the Cisco WS-X6348-RJ45V delivers exactly that.
The WS-X6348-RJ45V is a 48-port 10/100Base-TX Ethernet switching line card designed for the Cisco Catalyst 6500 and Catalyst 6000 series chassis. It ships with the WS-F6K-VPWR inline power daughter card pre-installed, enabling Cisco pre-standard Power over Ethernet to connected devices such as Cisco IP phones and wireless access points over standard Category 5 UTP cabling up to 100 meters. The "V" in the part number confirms the inline power daughter card is included — no separate upgrade purchase is required.
With enhanced QoS capabilities including multiple transmit and receive priority queues, this module ensures that latency-sensitive voice and video traffic receives preferential treatment across the switching fabric. The Catalyst 6500/6000 platform supports up to eight of these modules per chassis, scaling to 384 Fast Ethernet ports with inline power. Automatic phone discovery intelligently differentiates between IP phones and standard NICs, supplying power only to devices designed to receive it. For organizations maintaining or extending legacy Catalyst 6500 deployments, the WS-X6348-RJ45V remains a cost-effective way to add high-density PoE-capable Fast Ethernet access ports.
Note: This product is part of the Cisco Catalyst 6500 family which has reached End-of-Life (EOL) status. It is available as a refurbished or secondary-market item for existing deployment maintenance.
Features & Benefits
Inline Power for IP Telephony & Wireless
The WS-X6348-RJ45V includes the WS-F6K-VPWR inline power daughter card, delivering -48V DC power over standard Category 5 UTP cable to connected PoE devices. The switch automatically discovers IP phones and supplies inline power while intelligently avoiding powering standard NICs — simplifying deployment and protecting non-PoE equipment.
Enhanced Quality of Service (QoS)
Multiple transmit and receive priority queues enable granular traffic prioritization across all 48 ports. This is essential for converged voice/data networks where latency-sensitive traffic like VoIP and video must be prioritized over best-effort data flows to maintain call quality and user experience.
High-Density 48-Port Fast Ethernet
With 48 RJ-45 10/100Base-TX ports in a single slot, this module maximizes port density within the Catalyst 6500/6000 chassis. Up to eight modules can be installed per chassis, scaling to 384 Fast Ethernet ports — ideal for large campus wiring closets serving hundreds of endpoints.
Hot-Swappable & Online Insertion
The module supports online insertion and removal (OIR), allowing network administrators to install or replace the line card without disrupting other modules or the chassis supervisor. This minimizes downtime during maintenance windows and simplifies capacity expansion.
Comprehensive Network Management
Full SNMP MIB support — including RMON MIB (RFC 1757), Bridge MIB (RFC 1493), IF-MIB (RFC 1573), and Cisco-proprietary MIBs for CDP, VTP, STP, and VLAN management — provides deep visibility and control over port status, traffic statistics, and power allocation.
Deployment Scenarios
Campus IP Telephony Deployment
Ideal for wiring closets serving floors of Cisco IP phones. The inline power capability eliminates the need for separate AC adapters at each desk, while enhanced QoS ensures voice traffic is prioritized for clear, reliable calls across the campus LAN.
Wireless Access Point Power & Connectivity
Provides both data connectivity and inline power to ceiling- or wall-mounted Cisco wireless access points. This simplifies installation by requiring only a single Ethernet cable run to each AP location, reducing cabling costs and deployment time.
Legacy Catalyst 6500 Maintenance & Expansion
For organizations with existing Catalyst 6500/6000 chassis that need to maintain or expand their Fast Ethernet port capacity, the WS-X6348-RJ45V is a cost-effective secondary-market option that keeps the existing infrastructure operational without a full platform migration.
