What's Included
*Rackmount Kit not included
Deploying network services in space-constrained locations — retail counters, open-plan offices, classrooms, or branch closets — demands a switch that is compact, silent, and still enterprise-capable. The Cisco Catalyst 3560-8PC-S (WS-C3560-8PC-S) answers that need with eight 10/100 Power over Ethernet ports and one dual-purpose 10/100/1000 copper or SFP uplink, all in a fanless compact form factor.
With a 124W PoE budget and IEEE 802.3af support, the WS-C3560-8PC-S can power IP phones, wireless access points, video cameras, and other PoE-enabled devices directly from the switch — eliminating the need for separate power adapters at each endpoint. The dual-purpose uplink gives you the flexibility to connect back to your distribution layer over copper or fiber, depending on distance and infrastructure requirements.
Running the Cisco IOS IP Base feature set, this switch delivers Layer 3 static routing, advanced QoS, and robust security services including 802.1X authentication, port security, and DHCP snooping. It is an ideal access-layer switch for small enterprise LAN deployments, branch offices, and environments where noise and space are critical constraints.
Note: This product has reached End-of-Life (EOL) status with Cisco. It remains a cost-effective option when purchased pre-owned with a third-party warranty, and is fully functional for networks that do not require the latest Cisco software releases.
Features & Benefits
Power over Ethernet (PoE)
The WS-C3560-8PC-S provides IEEE 802.3af PoE across all eight 10/100 ports with a total power budget of 124W and up to 15.4W per port. This lets you power IP phones, wireless APs, and surveillance cameras without running separate power cables — reducing installation cost and simplifying moves, adds, and changes.
Compact Fanless Form Factor
Designed for deployment outside the traditional wiring closet, this switch operates silently with no fan. Its compact dimensions (1.73 × 10.6 × 9.1 in) make it suitable for mounting under desks, on walls, or in retail environments where space and noise are at a premium.
Flexible Uplink Connectivity
The single dual-purpose uplink port supports either a 10/100/1000 copper RJ-45 connection or an SFP fiber module. This gives network designers the flexibility to choose copper for short runs or fiber for longer distances back to the distribution switch or router.
Enterprise Security Services
Running Cisco IOS IP Base, the switch supports 802.1X port-based authentication, MAC-based port security, DHCP snooping, and dynamic ARP inspection. These features help protect the network edge from unauthorized access and common Layer 2 attacks.
Cisco IOS IP Base Feature Set
The IP Base image provides Layer 3 static routing, advanced QoS with per-port policing and shaping, and comprehensive management via CLI, SNMP, RMON, and Cisco Network Assistant. An upgrade path to IP Services is available for organizations that need dynamic routing protocols.
Deployment Scenarios
Branch Office Access Layer
Deploy the WS-C3560-8PC-S in small branch offices to provide PoE-powered IP telephony and wireless connectivity for up to eight users. The compact, fanless design fits neatly into open office environments without dedicated server rooms.
Retail & Point-of-Sale Environments
Power PoE-enabled POS terminals, barcode scanners, and IP cameras from a single silent switch mounted behind a counter or in a ceiling space. The 124W PoE budget supports multiple devices without external power injectors.
Classroom & Education Deployments
Extend network connectivity into classrooms where running multiple cable drops is impractical. The fanless operation ensures zero noise disruption, while PoE powers wireless access points for student and faculty connectivity.
Video Surveillance Extension
Connect up to eight PoE IP cameras in hallways, lobbies, or building perimeters. The SFP uplink option enables fiber runs back to the main IDF or MDF over longer distances where copper would exceed its 100-meter limit.

Compatibility Notes
- SFP Uplink: The dual-purpose uplink accepts Cisco 1000BASE SFP modules (e.g., GLC-SX-MMD, GLC-LH-SMD, GLC-T). Only one side of the dual-purpose port (copper or SFP) is active at a time.
- Software: Ships with Cisco IOS IP Base. Upgradeable to IP Services for advanced routing features.
- Power: Internal auto-ranging AC power supply (100–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz). No external power supply required.
- Mounting: Rackmount kit is not included and must be ordered separately if rack installation is desired.
- EOL Status: This product has been announced End-of-Life by Cisco. Last date of support from Cisco has passed. Third-party maintenance is available.
