Managing a growing fleet of standalone access-layer switches creates operational overhead — inconsistent configurations, complex troubleshooting, and limited resiliency. The Cisco C9200L-STACK Catalyst 9200L Stack Module eliminates these challenges by enabling Cisco StackWise-80 technology across your Catalyst 9200L fixed-uplink switches.

With 80 Gbps of stacking bandwidth, the C9200L-STACK module connects up to eight Catalyst 9200L switches into a single logical unit with a unified control plane and management interface. Administrators can configure, monitor, and troubleshoot the entire stack from a single IP address, dramatically reducing operational complexity. The stack delivers seamless failover and non-stop forwarding, ensuring high availability for mission-critical branch and campus networks.

The C9200L-STACK is a compact plug-in module that installs into the rear stacking port of any C9200L switch. It is designed exclusively for Catalyst 9200L fixed-uplink models and cannot be mixed with modular C9200 SKUs or other Catalyst series. Whether you are deploying a new branch office or expanding an existing enterprise access layer, the C9200L-STACK provides the scalability, resiliency, and simplified management that modern networks demand.

Features & Benefits
StackWise-80 Technology

Cisco StackWise-80 delivers 80 Gbps of full-duplex stacking bandwidth, creating a high-speed fabric between member switches. This ensures low-latency data-plane synchronization and control-plane convergence, keeping your network responsive even under heavy load.

Unified Stack Management

Stack up to eight Catalyst 9200L switches and manage them as a single logical entity through one IP address. Configuration changes, firmware upgrades, and monitoring tasks apply across the entire stack, reducing administrative effort and minimizing human error.

High Availability & Resiliency

The ring-based stacking topology provides seamless failover — if a member switch or link fails, traffic is automatically rerouted across the remaining stack fabric. Non-stop forwarding ensures continuous operation and minimal disruption to end users.

Plug-in, Field-Replaceable Design

The C9200L-STACK module installs directly into the rear stacking slot of any Catalyst 9200L switch. Its compact, field-replaceable form factor allows IT teams to add stacking capability on demand without replacing the switch or scheduling extended downtime.

Flexible Cable Options

A 0.5 m Type-3 data-stack cable is included by default when purchased as part of the stack kit. Optional 1 m and 3 m cables (STACK-T4-1M, STACK-T4-3M) are available separately, enabling stacking across adjacent racks or within larger wiring closets.

Deployment Scenarios
Branch Office Access Layer

Deploy two to four Catalyst 9200L switches in a branch office and stack them with the C9200L-STACK module. The unified management plane reduces the need for on-site IT expertise, while StackWise-80 resiliency ensures uninterrupted connectivity for branch users.

Enterprise Campus Access Aggregation

Stack up to eight C9200L switches across one or two racks in a campus IDF closet. The 80 Gbps fabric supports high-density access for endpoints and Wi-Fi access points, while single-pane management simplifies day-to-day operations for the campus network team.

Retail and Distributed Sites

Standardize on Catalyst 9200L stacks across dozens of retail locations. The C9200L-STACK module enables consistent, template-driven configurations pushed to each site, reducing deployment time and ensuring uniform security and QoS policies.

Compatibility Notes

Compatible Platforms:

  • All Cisco Catalyst 9200L fixed-uplink switch models (C9200L SKUs)

Not Compatible With:

  • Cisco Catalyst 9200 modular-uplink models (C9200 SKUs) — these require the C9200-STACK-KIT with StackWise-160
  • Cisco Catalyst 9200CX compact models — stacking is not supported
  • Cisco Catalyst 2960-X, 2960-XR, C9300, C9300L, or any other Catalyst series

Important: Mixed stacking between C9200L and C9200 modular models is not supported due to different stacking bandwidth architectures. All members in a stack must be C9200L SKUs.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The C9200L-STACK is designed exclusively for Catalyst 9200L fixed-uplink models. Modular C9200 switches require the C9200-STACK-KIT, which supports StackWise-160 at 160 Gbps. Mixed stacking between C9200 and C9200L is not supported.

You can stack up to 8 Cisco Catalyst 9200L switches into a single logical unit using StackWise-80 technology. Each switch in the stack requires its own stacking module and cable.

The C9200L-STACK uses Type-3 data stack cables. Available lengths include 0.5 m (STACK-T4-50CM), 1 m (STACK-T4-1M), and 3 m (STACK-T4-3M). Cables are sold separately unless purchased as part of the C9200L-STACK-KIT.

Yes. You can mix different C9200L model variants — including PoE, data-only, and different port counts — within the same stack, as long as all members are C9200L SKUs with the same license level.

The stacking module is field-replaceable and can be installed into the rear stacking slot of a Catalyst 9200L switch. However, adding or removing a stack member requires a stack reconvergence event. Consult Cisco documentation for your IOS-XE version for specific hot-swap procedures.
