Branch offices and small-to-medium businesses need a single platform that consolidates routing, security, and voice services — without the complexity and cost of managing separate appliances. The Cisco C2911-CME-SRST/K9 delivers exactly that.
This is a Cisco 2911 Integrated Services Router (ISR G2) Unified Communications Bundle that ships with a PVDM3-16 digital signal processor module and pre-licensed Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express (CME) and Survivable Remote Site Telephony (SRST) feature sets. It provides a turnkey voice-and-data platform: CME enables on-box IP telephony call processing for up to 25 phones, while SRST ensures that IP phones at remote sites maintain call processing capability even when the WAN link to a centralized call manager goes down.
Built on the Cisco 2911 chassis, the router features three onboard Gigabit Ethernet ports, four EHWIC expansion slots, two DSP slots, one ISM slot, and one double-wide service module slot — giving you room to add WAN interfaces, EtherSwitch modules, or wireless controllers as requirements evolve. Embedded hardware-accelerated VPN encryption, Cisco IOS Firewall, and identity management round out a comprehensive security posture. Whether you are deploying a standalone branch-office phone system or extending an enterprise UC environment to remote sites, the C2911-CME-SRST/K9 provides a proven, modular foundation.
Features & Benefits
Integrated Unified Communications
The bundle includes Cisco Unified CME and SRST licenses, enabling the router to function as a local call-processing engine or a survivable backup for a centralized Cisco Unified Communications Manager. This eliminates the need for a separate telephony server at each branch, reducing hardware costs and simplifying management.
PVDM3-16 Voice & Video DSP
The included PVDM3-16 module provides 16 channels of high-density digital signal processing for voice and video codecs including G.711, G.729, and G.722. It supports conferencing, transcoding, and fax relay — all on a single, field-upgradable module that can be swapped for higher-density PVDM3 variants as call volumes grow.
Modular, Scalable Architecture
With 4 EHWIC slots, 2 PVDM slots, 1 ISM slot, and 1 double-wide service module slot, the Cisco 2911 platform supports a wide range of interface cards — from T1/E1 and xDSL WAN modules to EtherSwitch service modules with up to 24 PoE LAN ports. This modularity protects your investment as network requirements change.
Enterprise-Grade Security
Embedded hardware-accelerated VPN encryption secures site-to-site and remote-access tunnels without a performance penalty. Cisco IOS Firewall, Zone-Based Firewall, IPS, and content filtering provide layered threat defense, while AAA and PKI deliver robust identity management — all running natively on the router.
High Availability for Voice
SRST ensures that IP phones at remote sites continue to receive call-processing services — including call routing, call preservation, and auto-provisioning — even when the WAN connection to the central CUCM cluster is lost. This keeps your business communicating during network disruptions.
Deployment Scenarios
Branch Office IP Telephony
Deploy the C2911-CME-SRST/K9 as a standalone CME call-processing platform at a small or mid-size branch. With the included PVDM3-16 and UC licenses, you can register IP phones, configure hunt groups, voicemail integration, and conferencing — all managed from a single device that also handles routing and security.
Survivable Remote Site for Enterprise UC
In a centralized CUCM deployment, place this router at each remote site as an SRST gateway. If the WAN link fails, the router automatically takes over call processing for local IP phones, preserving active calls and providing basic telephony features until connectivity is restored.
Converged WAN Edge Router
Consolidate routing, VPN, firewall, and voice gateway functions into a single 1RU platform at the network edge. The modular slot architecture lets you add T1/E1 voice trunks, DSL WAN uplinks, or EtherSwitch modules for local LAN switching — reducing device sprawl and operational overhead.

Compatibility Notes
- PVDM3 modules (PVDM3-16 through PVDM3-256) are supported in the Cisco 2911's two onboard PVDM slots. PVDM2 modules from previous-generation ISRs are not compatible.
- EHWIC, HWIC, WIC, and VIC interface cards are supported in the four EHWIC slots (with appropriate adapters for legacy WIC/VIC cards).
- Cisco IOS Software 15M&T releases are required for ISR G2 platforms.
- The Cisco 2911 platform has reached End-of-Sale status. Cisco recommends the Catalyst 8300 Series as the migration path for new deployments. Pre-owned and refurbished units remain widely available for existing network expansions and lab environments.
