Cisco 10000-SIP-600
Cisco 10000 Series SPA Interface Processor-600 10G
Product Highlights
Service providers and large enterprises running Cisco 10000 Series edge routers need a line card that delivers high-density, high-bandwidth aggregation without sacrificing QoS granularity or operational flexibility. The Cisco 10000-SIP-600 (SPA Interface Processor-600) is purpose-built for exactly that role.
The 10000-SIP-600 is a full-height vertical line card that occupies two adjacent slots in the Cisco 10000 Series chassis and provides four SPA bays (subslots 0–3), each accepting single-height Shared Port Adapters — or two double-height SPAs. Leveraging custom ASICs and point-to-point link bonding, the SIP-600 delivers up to 11.2 Gbps of aggregate bandwidth when paired with a PRE4 Performance Routing Engine, with support for 10 Gigabit Ethernet at line-rate. The centralized architecture of the Cisco 10000 router pushes advanced hierarchical QoS (HQoS), high availability, and full forwarding capabilities from the PRE directly to every SPA interface.
Hitless OIR lets you hot-swap individual SPAs without impacting traffic on neighboring interfaces, and SPA modularity means the same adapters can be redeployed across other Cisco SPA-capable platforms. With a typical power draw of just 54 watts, the 10000-SIP-600 balances throughput and efficiency for broadband aggregation, provider-edge, and managed-services deployments. Note: The Cisco 10000 Series (ESR10000) has reached End-of-Life; this product is available as a replacement spare for existing installations.
Features & Benefits
High-Bandwidth SPA Aggregation
Using custom ASICs and bonded point-to-point links, the SIP-600 provides up to 11.2 Gbps of aggregate bandwidth with a PRE4 engine (5.6 Gbps with PRE3). This enables line-rate forwarding for 10 Gigabit Ethernet SPAs, ensuring your edge router keeps pace with subscriber and traffic growth.
Flexible SPA Modularity
Four SPA bays accept a mix of single-height and double-height Shared Port Adapters — including Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, and other interface types. SPAs are shared across multiple Cisco platforms, protecting your investment and simplifying sparing strategies.
Advanced Hierarchical QoS (HQoS)
The centralized Cisco 10000 architecture delivers the full QoS, scalability, and forwarding capabilities of the Performance Routing Engine to every SPA interface on the SIP-600. This enables granular, multi-level traffic policies essential for managed services and multi-tenant environments.
Hitless Online Insertion & Removal
Both the SIP-600 itself and individual SPAs support hitless OIR, allowing you to add, change, or remove interfaces without disrupting traffic on other SPA bays. This minimizes maintenance windows and improves overall network availability.
Carrier-Grade Timing Support
The SIP-600 supports BITS-enabled SPAs, providing the precise network timing and synchronization required for TDM-to-IP migration and carrier-grade service delivery.
Deployment Scenarios
Broadband Aggregation Edge
Deploy the 10000-SIP-600 in a Cisco 10000 Series router at the broadband aggregation edge to terminate high-density subscriber connections. The combination of 11.2 Gbps throughput and HQoS ensures per-subscriber traffic management at scale.
Service Provider PE Router
Use the SIP-600 in a provider-edge deployment to aggregate diverse access technologies — Ethernet, ATM, POS — through interchangeable SPAs. SPA modularity lets you adapt interface types as your network evolves without replacing the line card.
Replacement Spare for Existing ESR10000 Installations
With the Cisco 10000 Series at End-of-Life, maintaining a stock of tested SIP-600 spares is critical for organizations still operating ESR10000 routers. A pre-tested replacement unit minimizes downtime during hardware failures.

Compatibility Notes
Platform Compatibility
- Cisco 10000 Series Router (ESR10000) — Occupies two adjacent line-card slots; up to 4 SIPs per chassis.
- Cisco uBR10012 Universal Broadband Router — Supported in slots 1 and 3 only; maximum of 2 SIPs per chassis. Cannot co-exist with the Cisco Wideband SIP.
Performance Routing Engine Requirements
- ESR-PRE4: Full 11.2 Gbps aggregate bandwidth across all SPA bays.
- ESR-PRE3: Reduced total bandwidth of 5.6 Gbps.
- PRE1 / PRE2: Not supported — the SIP-600 requires PRE3 or PRE4.
Compatible SPAs (examples)
- SPA-1X10GE-L-V2 (1-Port 10GE, XFP)
- SPA-5X1GE-V2 (5-Port GE, SFP)
- SPA-2X1GE-V2 (2-Port GE, SFP or RJ-45)
