Cisco NM-1CE1T1-PRI
1-Port Channelized E1/T1/ISDN-PRI Network Module
Product Highlights
Managing diverse WAN connectivity requirements across branch offices shouldn't mean stocking separate modules for every circuit type. The Cisco NM-1CE1T1-PRI 1-Port Channelized E1/T1/ISDN-PRI Network Module solves this by consolidating T1, E1, and ISDN PRI support into a single, software-configurable network module.
Designed for Cisco 2610-51XM, 2800, 2691, 3660, 3700, and 3800 Series routers, the NM-1CE1T1-PRI features an integrated channel service unit/data service unit (CSU/DSU) that provides direct connection to the telecommunications network — eliminating the need for external CPE. The module is fully configurable via Cisco IOS CLI, allowing network administrators to switch between T1 and E1 operation, select balanced (120-ohm) or unbalanced (75-ohm) E1 termination, and configure channelized E1, ISDN PRI, E1-CAS-R2, or G.703/G.704 modes without replacing hardware.
Ideal for WAN connectivity, ISDN dial-backup, and digital modem termination in power branch office environments, the NM-1CE1T1-PRI delivers multifunction dial access aggregation, routing, VPN, and firewall capabilities within the router chassis. Its single-slot NM form factor and broad platform support make it a versatile, cost-effective choice for organizations maintaining E1/T1 infrastructure worldwide.
Features & Benefits
Software-Configurable T1/E1 Operation
The NM-1CE1T1-PRI is software-configurable between E1 and T1 operation using the Cisco IOS card type command. This eliminates the need to purchase and stock separate modules for T1 and E1 environments, reducing inventory costs and simplifying spares management across multi-site deployments.
Integrated CSU/DSU
An integrated channel service unit/data service unit (CSU/DSU) provides direct connection to the telecommunications network. This allows customers to consolidate customer premises equipment (CPE) and reduce rack space, cabling, and points of failure in the branch office.
Flexible E1 Termination & Signaling
Supports both balanced (120-ohm) and unbalanced (75-ohm) E1 termination, as well as structured G.704 and unstructured G.703 modes. Additional signaling support includes channelized E1, ISDN PRI, T1-CAS, and E1-CAS-R2, making the module suitable for diverse international telecom environments.
Built-In Diagnostics & Monitoring
Each port features an RJ-48C connector along with Tx/Rx monitoring bantam (tty) jacks for real-time line diagnostics. Multiple loopback modes — including controller local, interface local, interface remote, and CSU loopback — simplify troubleshooting without external test equipment.
On-Board AIM Expansion Slot
An integrated Advanced Integration Module (AIM) connector provides an on-board expansion slot for future technology upgrades. This forward-looking design helps protect your investment as new capabilities become available.
Deployment Scenarios
Branch Office WAN Connectivity
Deploy the NM-1CE1T1-PRI in Cisco 2800 or 3800 Series routers to provide primary T1 or E1 WAN uplinks at branch offices. The integrated CSU/DSU eliminates external equipment, and software configurability lets you adapt the same module to T1 or E1 circuits depending on regional requirements.
ISDN PRI Dial-Backup & Dial Access
Use the module's ISDN PRI capability to provide dial-backup for primary WAN links or to aggregate dial-in access for remote users and telecommuters. When paired with Cisco Digital Modem PVDMs in the 2800 or 3800 Series, the NM-1CE1T1-PRI enables a complete remote-access server solution within the router.
International Multi-Site Deployments
Organizations operating across regions with mixed T1 and E1 infrastructure can standardize on a single module SKU. The NM-1CE1T1-PRI's support for G.703, G.704, balanced/unbalanced termination, and multiple CAS signaling types makes it adaptable to virtually any national telecom standard.
