Deploying phones in high-traffic common areas demands a reliable, low-maintenance solution that won't break the budget. The Cisco CP-7910G IP Phone 7910G, Global is a single-line Unified IP Phone from the Cisco 7900 Series, purpose-built for lobbies, break rooms, hallways, and other shared spaces where basic calling capability is all that's needed.
The CP-7910G features a clear 2x24 character LCD display that shows caller ID, date and time, dialed digits, and call state information — keeping users informed without complexity. Four dedicated feature buttons (Line, Hold, Transfer, and Settings) and six programmable feature access keys provide intuitive call handling, while G.711 and G.729a audio codec support ensures crisp, reliable voice quality.
With an internal two-port Ethernet switch, the 7910G can share a single network drop with a co-located PC or other Ethernet device, reducing cabling costs. The phone supports Power over Ethernet (PoE) via Cisco Discovery Protocol as well as a local 48VDC power supply (sold separately), giving you flexible deployment options. Compatible with Cisco CallManager version 3.0(5) or higher, the CP-7910G integrates seamlessly into existing Cisco Unified Communications environments. The "G" designation indicates universal icon key labels for global deployment.
Note: This product has reached Cisco End-of-Life status. It remains a cost-effective option for organizations maintaining legacy Cisco UC infrastructure or needing affordable common-area phones.
Features & Benefits
Common-Area Ready Design
The CP-7910G is designed primarily for common-use areas such as lobbies, break rooms, and hallways where specialized features are unnecessary. Its simple, durable form factor with a single-position footstand minimizes user confusion and reduces support overhead in shared environments.
Clear LCD Display & Intuitive Controls
The 2x24 character LCD display shows calling party name, number, date/time, and call state indicators. Four dedicated feature buttons — Line, Hold, Transfer, and Settings — are prominently placed below the display for fast, intuitive call handling. Six additional feature access keys can be administrator-configured for functions like Messages, Conference, Forward, Speed Dial, and Redial.
Built-In Two-Port Ethernet Switch
The internal Cisco two-port Ethernet switch allows a co-located PC or other network device to share the same network drop as the phone. This eliminates the need for additional cabling or a separate desktop switch, reducing infrastructure costs at every desk or station.
Flexible Power Options
The CP-7910G can be powered via a local 48VDC power supply or inline power over the LAN using Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP). PoE support simplifies deployment by eliminating the need for a dedicated power outlet at each phone location. Note that the power adapter is sold separately.
Voice Quality & Codec Support
Supporting both G.711 and G.729a audio compression codecs, the 7910G delivers clear voice quality while giving administrators the flexibility to optimize bandwidth usage. The phone is hearing-aid compatible and includes a mute button for handset and headset microphones.
Deployment Scenarios
Lobby & Reception Areas
Place the CP-7910G in building lobbies and reception desks where visitors or staff need simple, reliable phone access. The single-line design and intuitive controls require zero training, making it ideal for high-turnover or public-facing locations.
Break Rooms & Hallways
Deploy in break rooms, hallways, and other common areas where employees need occasional phone access without dedicated desk phones. The durable construction and minimal feature set reduce the risk of misconfiguration or misuse.
Manufacturing Floors & Laboratories
The CP-7910G addresses voice communication needs in labs and manufacturing environments where workers need basic calling capability. PoE support means fewer power outlets are required in industrial settings, and the rugged ABS plastic housing withstands daily wear.
Legacy Cisco UC Maintenance
Organizations maintaining existing Cisco Unified Communications Manager deployments can use the CP-7910G as a cost-effective replacement or spare for common-area phones, extending the life of their current infrastructure investment.
